FFXIV crafting materials: plan quantities and avoid extra crafts
Choose the finished items and quantities first, then subtract the materials already in your inventory. A crafting plan combines ingredients shared by several recipes and calculates whole crafts for each intermediate. Its material list shows what remains to obtain rather than charging your inventory twice for the same ingredient.
How many times do I need to craft a recipe?
A recipe's output quantity and its craft count answer different questions. Output is the number of items one successful craft produces. Craft count is how many complete executions you need to reach your target after using owned items. Divide the remaining target by the recipe's output and round upward. The final craft may leave extra items; those extras belong to the result, not to the ingredient bill.
The planner expands a selected recipe through its intermediate materials. Each intermediate uses its own output quantity. Changing a target updates the whole chain, including crystals and shards where that recipe consumes them. The crafting order puts intermediates before the finished items that need them.
Worked example: three Bronze Rivets
Open the blacksmith Bronze Rivets recipe and set the target to three. Each craft needs a Bronze Ingot and a Fire Shard. The blacksmith Bronze Ingot recipe consumes Copper Ore, Tin Ore and another Fire Shard.
With one Bronze Ingot already owned, only two ingots must be crafted. The table below calculates the complete chain from those selections.
| Item | Required | Owned used | Still needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 0 | 3 | |
| 3 | 1 | 2 | |
| 4 | 0 | 4 | |
| 2 | 0 | 2 | |
| 5 | 0 | 5 |
What changes when several recipes need the same material?
Add each finished item to the same plan. Shared intermediates are combined before their craft counts are rounded. For example, adding another recipe that consumes Bronze Ingots increases the common ingot requirement; it does not create an independent inventory allowance for each goal. An ingot you already own can satisfy one part of that combined demand.
The same rule applies when a finished item is also an ingredient of another selected recipe. Its target quantity and its use in other crafts are counted together. Quantities in the material list describe the combined plan, so there is no need to copy totals between separate recipe tabs.
Should I craft an intermediate or obtain it directly?
Use the material's method selector to choose an available recipe or Gather or buy. Obtaining an intermediate directly stops its ingredient chain at that item. This is useful when you have already decided to purchase it, receive it from another player, or gather it instead of making it.
Bronze Ingots have a blacksmith recipe and an armorer recipe. If you do not choose a method, this plan starts with the blacksmith recipe, so the worked example consumes a Fire Shard. Choose the armorer recipe when that part of the plan should consume an Ice Shard instead. The planner follows the method you select. It does not rank either recipe by price.
How do I turn the material list into a gathering trip?
Choose Gather materials to open the gathering itinerary. It carries the remaining quantities into source selection. Compare gathering methods, node levels and areas, then open a node's map. Materials without an ordinary gathering source retain links to their other acquisition methods. Planning a gathering trip explains how to compare these alternatives without assuming a guaranteed yield per visit.
Will opening a shared plan replace my own work?
Your current plan is saved in this browser. A shared link opens separately when its selections differ from your saved plan. Choose Use this plan to adopt it; until then, changes to the shared plan do not overwrite your saved work. My saved plan returns to the local record.
The share link contains the chosen goals, the owned quantities that still apply to those goals, and the intermediate recipe choices. Review those selections before sharing. If this browser cannot store the plan, the page says that changes cannot be saved. The previous saved record stays in place. Keep the page open or copy the plan link.
